Ex Nihilo (meaning Out of Nothing) Theatre Group acts as a collective, a collective of artists.

Boasting itself in creating new provocative work and ideas mainly through the medium of theatre, but using all forms of the arts to express this. Founded by Adebayo Bolaji whilst studying at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Ex Nihilo runs along side B.A.S.E (Bolaji Arts School Experimentation) a new school/research centre currently in formation, with the main focus of researching artistic processes and needs... What do actors need 'today'- this generation?

LAST PRODUCTION: 'Life of Riley' by Sir Alan Ayckbourn - April 2013

Following on from the sell-out successes of 'The Kebabman Cometh', 'Table Manners', and their recent musical production, 'tick, tick…BOOM!', What Was That? Productions were very excited to

return to the Aberystwyth Arts Centre with their recent offering 'Life of Riley' on April 17 and 18 2013, the company also performed at Barmouth's Dragon Theatre on April 19.

Sir Alan Ayckbourn's fresh comedy had West Wales' audiences laughing once again, and was chosen with the success of 2011's 'Table Manners' (also by Ayckbourn), in mind.

Having only premiered in 2010, the What Was That? Productions team are extremely excited to be one of the very first companies to produce this play professionally. The play enjoyed a limited run at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough and a limited tour in 2011, both of which were directed by Sir Alan Ayckbourn.

This roller coaster ride of humour and sadness is set over 7 months and highlights the entanglements of seven characters, and their dealings with the ever-elusive George Riley. Having been diagnosed with terminal cancer, George manages to have an unwelcome, yet hilarious impact on everyone else's lives! Watch, (and laugh) as each of three couples discovers there is far more to George than meets the eye!.

Produced by Aberystwyth Graduates Alan Mehdizadeh & Steven Humpherson, and directed by Aberystwyth Graduate Adam Lacey, ('Table Manners' and 'tick, tick…BOOM!'), the play retained the companies strong commitment to producing theatre which showcases the work of Aberystwyth affiliated individuals, whilst continuing to present professional actors from as far afield as Indianapolis!
